The legacy left by Marilyn Monroe
Today, you might see Monroe as just a sex symbol who has become successful by her dazzling looks. But really what people might not know is that she is was way more capable of just showing off her curves and appearance. Marilyn did not have a good start to her life as a child but that never stooped her. She worked extremely hard over her career and was actually very intelligent. But why has she been remembered so much? What did she do that was so important? And most of all what has the legacy she had carried on
to the world today? 1.) Style and Sexuality: Marilyn was and still is of the most beautiful women that ever lived. She carried a legacy through being one of the real first women to sport short bleach-blond hair, shorter clothing, and to just show the real you by still being proper. Though she had to dye her hair and play up her curvaceous body, her style was still very much her own. It is also her beautiful white dress and beautiful photo shoots that are impersonated today. Monroe's style has been copied many times by modern stars and will be hard to ever forget about. 2.) Own production company: Yes, Marilyn Monroe was one of the first woman in history to own their own production company, "Marilyn Monroe productions." Her production was established with 101 shares of stock. Marilyn's role was to star in the films selected by the company, while Greece, another worker in the company was to conduct all of the business and pay the bills. Marilyn's company made her extremely successful, she played roles in tons of films such as "The Prince And The Show Girl" and in all she appeared in 29 films in all. Marilyn had left more than a legacy with this, but proved to people who did not believe she was a hard worker that she in fact was and even more than that. 3.) Changed the life of a black woman Around the time (about the 1960s) when Marilyn was already known around the world, racism was still a big issue. Famous jazz singer known today as Ella Fitzgerald’s who's voice is recognized by millions around the world, also had a big impact on the world of music and arts . But very few know about her career-defining friendship with Marilyn Monroe, to whom Fitzgerald said she “owe a real debt to.” Just like every other black musician in this time period, faced significant adversity as a result of her race. She could not go into just any hotel or bathroom sit on any buss just like all the other blacks. Until one night where Monroe changed the path of Ella's career for good. During the ‘50s, one of the most popular venues was called Mocambo and was located in Hollywood. Fitzgerald was not allowed to play at Mocambo because of her race ,but of course who they did want was Marilyn Monroe. Then one of Ella's big fans (Marilyn) made a telephone call to the owner the venue that changed her career. Marilyn demanded that they would let Ella in and preform and that she would sit in the front row if they did and will give the venue a bad rate if they didn't. So they let her in and from there on Marilyn has left a legacy through helping one of the best jazz singers in history to even get noticed. Below shows in Ella's words how Marilyn changed her life. “I owe Marilyn Monroe a real debt … she personally called the owner of the Mocambo, and told him she wanted me booked immediately, and if he would do it, she would take a front table every night. She told him – and it was true, due to Marilyn’s superstar status – that the press would go wild. “The owner said yes, and Marilyn was there, front table, every night. The press went overboard. After that, I never had to play a small jazz club again. She was an unusual woman – a little ahead of her times. And she didn’t know it." |
